Mr T. B. Strong:, Director of Education, will visit Ashburton to-morrow. Mr E. L. Page, of Cashmere, is leaving Christchurch to-day on a trip to England. Mr L. B. Jordan, Senior Government Auditor, who was taken suddenly ill last week, is still confined to his room. Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M.. of Hamilton, returned to Auckland by the Aorangi. He has been on a six months' visit to England, Scotland and France. Mr S. Hunter, buyer for the British Phosphate Commissioners, arrived at Auckland on the Aorangi. He is seeking to extend the Commission's markets in New Zealand. Mr C. R. Eskell, New Zealand manager for Universal Films, arrived at Auckland by the Aorangi. Sketch, general manager in London for the Phoenix Assurance Company, who is visiting the Dominion, returned to Christchurch from Dunedin last evening. Mr S. W. Jameson was elected a life member of the Lin wood Lawn Tennis Club at that body’s annual meeting last evening. Randell, chief providore of the Orient Line, London, was a passenger from Sydney by the Aorangi. Accompanied by Mrs Randell, he will make a tour of New Zealand. The Rev R. J. Patterson, of Dublin, Ireland, a celebrated Presbvterian minister, who is better known as “ Catch-My-Pal ” Patterson, arrived by the Aorangi from Australia, and will make a tour of the Dominion. He is well known for his work among the poorer classes in Dublin. The Rev Henry Whyte, who for the past twenty years has been engaged in missionary work in India, arrived by the Aorangi. He will spend two months in New Zealand. Dr R. J. Tillyard, formerly of the Cawthron Institute, and now head of the Commonwealth Entomological Research Institute, returned from England and America by the Maunganui, which arrived at Wellington on Monday. Dr Tillyard is going on to Nelson, and will leave for Australia by the Maheno next month. An election of Fellows of the Board of Governors of Christ’s College resulted in Messrs T. D. Harman and t>. S. Murchison being elected members of the board unopposed. Mr A. U. Tapper, having been detained in England, and his movements being uncertain, cabled his nominators to withdraw him from participation in the election.
