LIFE SAVING CENTRE HAS ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of the Canterbury Head Centre of the Royal Life Saving Society was held last evening, the Mayor (the Rev J. K. Archer) presiding. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the Mayor congratulated the society on its work. As the risks to the community, due to the greater attendance at the seaside, increased, so the work of the society became more important. He congratulated the officers of the society, the instructors, examiners, and all active members on the success of the society’s work. The following officers were elected:— Patron, His Majesty the King; vicepresident, the Governor-General; president, Sir Henry Wigram; vice-presi-dents, the Hon Sir Heaton Rhodes, Archbishop Julius, Bishop West-Watson. Bishop Brodie, the Mayor of Christchurch, the Mayor of Ashburton, the Mayor of New Brighton, the Mayor of Sumner, Dr H. T. J. Thacker, Messrs D. G. Sullivan, M.P., H. D. Acland, S. K. Bassett, F. M. Collins, J. A. Flesher, J. D. Hall, H. F. Herbert and H. Holland; honorary treasurer, Mr IT. Breward; assistant treasurer, Mr E. A. Chivers; honorary secretary, Mr P. G. Bamford; assistant secretaries, Mr G. D. Griffiths and Miss B. L. Buxton; committee, Miss I. V. Agassiz, Mr J Breward, Mr F. S. Taylor and Misses Cowley and D. Brown, together with the delegates representing the affiliated organisations: honorary auditor, Mr A. Donaldson; honorary solicitors, Messrs Cuningham and Taylor; trustees, Messrs F. M. Collins and T. Newburgh; delegate to central executive, Mr F. A. Hornibrook: delegate to New Zealand Council, Mr P- R- Climie; delegate to Canterbury Centre N.Z A.S.A., Mr R. A. Wilkinson; delegate to Surf Association, Mr ft. A. Wilkinson; honorary chief instructor, Mr H. S. Feast. The following awards were granted:-: Elementary certificates-—P. C. Dixon and L. Greenslade. Proficiency certificates—Dorothy M. Rankin, Fred A. Barltrqp and George Masters. Bronze medallions —Dorothy M. Rankin, Frerl A. Barltrop and George Masters.
