VERSAILLES PACT BEING TREATED AS SCRAP OF PAPER.
“DAILY EXPRESS” ATTACKS BRITAIN’S POLICY. (United Press Assn.— By Electric Telegraph.—Copyrigh t.) (Received September 26, 12.35 p.m.) LONDON, September 25. The “ Daily Express,” in a leader, says:— “Article 431 of the Treaty of Versailles contains the unambiguous pledge that Germany’s fulfilment of her treaty obligations will be recompensed by the withdrawal of the armies of occupation. All the world knows that Germany has fulfilled her obligations, has disarmed and has punctually delivered her reparation payments, and so far reentered the life of Europe. Britain, by maintaining troops in the Rhineland, is violating her solemn engagements. The policy is morally wrong. Moreover, the body of troops is ludicrously inadequate to constrain Germany, but enough to irritate. “It is an unpleasant thought that wo are treating the Versailles Treaty as a scrap cf paper.” —Australian Press Association.
