MOTOR-CARS IN BRITAIN.
At the beginning of the present summer season there were 1,909.000 motorvehicles ready for use on British roads —an increase in one year of 153,000. During the three months ended May last, the number of motor vehicles licensed for the first time was 107,049, including 56,136 cars, 36,019 motorcycles, 9424 goods vehicles and 3695 cars for hire. The gross amount paid in motor licenses in the six months ended May 31 was £19,884,801, an increase of £1,545,521 over the corresponding period of last year, and an increase of £4,771,892 compared with 1926.
