MEETING OF CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. The executive of the Canterbury Rowing Association met last night. There were present:—Messrs F. D. Kestever (chairman), \V. Duggan, R. E. Nightingale, W. S. Godfrey, F. L. Booth, A. T. Evans, H. H. Berry, J. H. Williams, S. Dunn, W. Whittington and R. J. Hobbs (honorary secretary). The. New Zealand Council wrote stat ing that the Wanganui Union Club’B four, who won the New Zealand cham pionship last season, were the only crew nominated to visit Melbourne for the Australian Henley regatta. They were, therefore, entered for the Stewards’ Challenge Cup. Local associations were asked to assist with the expenses of the crew. The council would probably vote £25. The crew would leave New Zealand about the middle of October. A vote of £5 5s was approved. The Marlborough Association wrote advising that the association had made application for the holding of the 1925-2 2 9 New Zealand championship regatta on Plcton Harbour in February. Mr A J. Maclaine had been nominated for the presidency of the New Zealand Association. It was decided to suprort the nomln ation of Picton Harbour for the championship regatta. The chairman stated that the committee making arrangements for a gala At Sumner and Redcliffs on Labour Day had asked if crews would enter for rowing races on the Estuary . After discussion it was resolved that crews, owing to the uncertainty of weather and tides, could scarcely stage events at that period of the year. • The annual meeting was fixed for Tuesday, October 16. OPENING DAY RACES. Arrangements for opening day were discussed, and October 27 was- .reoorfitmended. ,The secretary said that it waS hoped to' have about .twenty events on the programme. The Christ's Collegf crews would compete. Mr W. Duggan suggested that a tent near the Christ’s College sheds should be used as a dressing Bhed. and that the boats should be worked from the college landing. The suggestions will be forwarded to the opening day committee.
