BOXING.

AUSTRALIAN WANTS GUARANTEED PURSE. (Special to the “Star.’) AUCKLAND, August 25. A reply to a cable sent by the Northern Boxing Association to E. Monson, the Australian middle-weight champion, was considered by the committee of the association last evening. It has given the Australian twentyfour hours to accept or decline the offer for a match in Auckland against M’lnnes or M Donald. Monson intimated that he wanted a guaranteed purse, win, lose, or draw. Failing the successful closure of the negotiations an endeavour will be made to match Charlie Purdy and Jack Carroll at an early date.
