DUNEDIN, August 25. THE Canterbury Rugby representatives played Otago at Carisbrook to-day in fair weather. The final score was: Otago 31, Canterbury 9.

-?Ten thousand people witnessed the match between Otago and Canterbury. The Canterbury- team was: Full-back—G. H. Mefirtens. Three-quarters: O. D. Cheslev, J. Galbraith, L. G-. Lcveridge. Canterbury kicked off with a bright sun i«4 their faces. Even- play followed. The Canterbury- -backs got going in a dangerous- move, but Loveridge was grassed in excellent style by Nicholson. The Otago', forwards worked the ball down-field. Webb kicked and Canterbury marked. Marslin charged down the kirk and the ball went out. Following a lide-out, Canterbury were penalised. Hay set the backs moving, Galbraith and Chesley handling brilliantly. Chesley scored. Fookes failed to convert. Otago 11, Canterbury 6. Just on time Webb raced over and scored behind the posts. EXCITING PLAY. (Special to the “ Star. AUCKLAND. August 23. There- was beautiful weather and an attendance of 20,000 at Eden Park today for the opcning-matcli of the New South Wales Rugby tour against a strong Auckland fifteen 1 . The visitors fielded the following side: Westfield: three-quar-ters, Towers, Caldwell, White; five-eighths, Oeocfe; half-back, .Malcolm: forwards, Loudon, Bardsley, Rosenblum. O’Connor, Bland, Ceruttd G’l>onnelk Comrie-Thomson. Shortly after the commencement, Towers 'intercepted a pass, dashed away and passed to George, who sent Loudon across, but play was recalled for a five vards scrummage. Auckland cleared, and Westfield had a pot. It was a fine kick, narrowly missing. Soon afterwards Batty, Wanoa and Paewai were associated in an Auckland attack which threatened danger, but the visitors worked back until Linton broke through. Westfield grassing the rover in rare stvle. Malcolm, Towers, George and- White put the Waratahs in a good position, and from the resultant play Loudon broke away to open the scoring. A great kick by Caldwell failed to enhance the score. Waratahs 3, Auckland Auckland attacked, Jenkiri missing a penalty. A high kick by Minns had Westfield bustled, and Linton -am* away with Knight and Batty in attendance. but Linton hung on too long. A golden opportunity was missed. In the second spell, Auckland reopened the attack, another interception enabling Waratahs to counter-attack, and the visiting forwards took all before them, Paewai forcing as Hemingway rushed across after the ball after Towers missed a pot. CaUicart and Batty broke away. The Ai .landers were now infusing plenty of i*..3h into the play, penning the Waratahs down. A succession of scrums followed right on the visitors' line. Rosenblum finally raised the siege. Then followed an interval of fast, open football, the pace being a cracker. First one side, then another, threatened. From a scrum near the Waratahs' Tine, Carter passed to Jenkin, who scored and goaled: Waratahs 6, Auckland 5. The home side soon got in the lead with a try by Hook, after passing from Carter to Jenkin, to Hook, to Jenkin and back to Hook. Auckland 8, Waratahs 6. Within a few minutes Waratahs were ahead again, two tries being scored quickly by Towers and Rosenblum. Waratahs 12, Auckland 8.
