THE LEAGUE CODE.

To the Editor. Dear Sir,—The one who signs himself “Something Rotten in the State of Denmark” must have written his letter with a jaundiced mind, foreign to what is called British fair play. Surely the whole of any team should not be condemned for the actions of any one, two, three or four members. If, Sir, we are to go on such lines, what is to be said for Rugby Union play during the past season? Why, even the management committee in Wellington is not yet satisfied with the manner in which the Christchurch Management Committee has dealt with its own offenders during the present season. To my way of thinking there seems some bias on the part of the writer. One part of his*Tetter makes sure as to the identity of the writer. (I may be wrong; if so, I am sorry). I refer to the special lines wherein he states old Rugby Unionists remember what took place some few years ago, when a certain body' of players transferred to the Rugby League code, and infers it was a good thing for the Rugby Union. But he does not state what inducement was offered to get the weakknees of that same body to remain with the Union. Thank the Lord I do not belong to one or the other of them. In the past I did ray little bit in restoring the days of common sense, and I do sincerely hope the day is not far distant when all true sports will come together and recognise that there is room for all. When that time comes, as come it will, it will be unsafe for any member to sow seeds of dissension amongst our young boys and girls, no matter where they come from, whether Denmark or any other rotten State. If the writer of the letter referred to will give you permission to publish his name and address then I, also, will give permission for the publication of mine, and in conclusion I hope to see every fair-minded Union player attend English Park to-day and to judge for themselves the calibre of the men who have been sent to this part of the world to uphold the honour of the League players of Great Britain and the honour of their patron, King George of England.—l am, etc., FAIR PLAY IS BONNY PLAY.
