Petone opened the second spell brightly and a brisk attack had Northern in difficulty, M’Quarrie being called upon to save several times in the first five minutes. Northern recovered and Ante combined play saw Petone backs kept busily engaged. They stood up to the task well, Steel and Ilaines kicking safely and soundly. Petone gradually worked their way upheld again, but Coates cleared well with a hefty kick. M’Lean took charge and sent in a brilliant centre, but MTean came through to save brilliantly. Petone attacked again, but wild shooting robbed them of their chances. Towards the end Petone took charge and attack followed attack. In the final effort Northern charged dowufleld, but M'Vean brought off a brilliant save. Two corners followed, but Petone cleaned and the game ended:— Petone 1, Northern 0. Canterbury took a turn at attack but fine kicking kept them at bay. Canterbury got away and Hay made an opening for Grant, who scored. Chesley’s kick missed. Otago came again and Donnelly scored. The next minute Holden scored, Nicolson converting. Tlio game ended: Otago 31, Canterbury 9. —— C N.S.W. v. AUCKLAND. In the second rpell Towers kicked a penalty goal for New South Wales, and Malcolm dropped a beautiful goal, the final score being: Waratahs 19, Auckland 8.
