WEAK, HALTING CALL RECEIVED.

(United Frees Aeen.—By Electrio Telegraph.—Copyright.)

(Received August 25, 10.25 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 24. A message signed with the call letters of the ’plane Greater Rockford, the authenticity of which is doubted, was received early to-day by amateur operators in Brooklyn, Chicago, New York, and elsewhere.

The messages asked for immediate help, and that the said ’plane was on an island fifty to 100 miles north of Newfoundland, where no such island is located. Experts state that the ’plane is unable to send such messages with its available instruments.

A later message received here similarly signed was weak and halting, and asked for aid. It was apparently sent with a B battery.—Australian Press Association.
