NOT DOGMATIC ABOUT SITE FOR NEW ART GALLERY

MAYOR DOES NOT OBJECT TO NEW SUGGESTION.

" I am not dogmatic about the matter. and from my own point of view I *ee no objection to the suggestion. ’ said the Mayor, the Rev J. K. Archer, this morning, when asked his opinion regarding the suggestion made by Mr H. Kitson, a member of the Domains Board, that the Art Gallery should be erected on the site now occupied by the curator’s house on the Rolieston Avenue frontage of the Botanic Gardens. The Mayor said that Mr Kitson's suggestion was not entirely new. It had been considered previously with a number of other suggestions regarding possible sites. The only thing new about it was the idea of shifting the house. \ At the time, however, Mr M’DougaU very definitely disapproved of the site. Mr Archer said that his own idea of the site was that if it was used for the Art Gallery the building would, in a way, balance the Museum building on the opposite side of tfce Gardens.
