POPULAR MUSIC PLAY DRAWS CROWDS TO THEATRE ROYAL.
The season which has been remarkably successful of the J. C. Williamson Royal Comic Opera Company at the Theatre Royal, will be brought to a close to-night with the final presentation of “Madame Pompadour.” The production is one in which there is beautiful and lavish dressing. The part of Madame Pompadour is a graceful one. and Miss de Vries brings to it a handsome stage presence and much skilful acting. Mr Webster is admirably cast as the ardent Rene. His light tenor voice is sweet and of wide range. Mr Arthur Stigant is Joseph Calicot, the amusing playwright, to the life. The other artists in the piece carry out their work well, and the choruses and the orchestra are efficient.
