DOMINION RUGBY UNION CRITICISED.

“ PLAYERS LOST ” BEFORE INTER-ISLAND GAME.

A protest against arrangements made for the North v. South Island Rugby match last Saturday by the New Zealand Rugby Union was made at last night’s meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union. A protest was also made against the prices charged, but this matter lapsed after discussion. In reporting on the arrangements for the inter-island match played last Saturday, Mr J. K. Moloney said that confusion arose owing to the lack of control by the New Zealand Rugby Union. Players, particularly those of the South Island team, were wandering about the streets lost. Owing to Race Week accommodation was scarce, and players were billeted all over the place. It had not been fair to the team. He thought that the New Zealand Union hould be recommended to the effect, that the inter-island teams should be assembled together not later than ten o’clock on the Friday morning before the match. Mr J. M’Gillivray (secretary) said that Mr Moloney had been looking for his team before it was supposed to have arrived. Mr Moloney: Some of them did not arrive until Friday evening. That is not fair to the players or to the public. The chairman (Mr A. E. M’Phail) : Some of the players do not wish to lose too much time from their work. Dr W. S. Seed said that both teams should be assembled on the morning before the match. Mr Moloney: Most of the players did not know where or when to assemble. Mr Moloney moved that it be a recommendation to the New Zealand Rugby Union that better arrangements be made for inter-island matches, and that the teams be assembled on the morning before the match. The motion was carried. Mr W. Brittan thought that a protest should also be made against the high prices charged for the inter-island match. Mr A. Duggan said that many of the regular patrons did not attend last Saturday. Dr Seed said that the Canterbury Union had made a mistake in making an extra charge for reservations. On the chairman’s suggestion the matter was allowed to drop.
