An instance of an employee’s martyrdom in the cause of duty was reported at a meeting of the BermOndrey Borough Council. When the Public Health Committee recommended that. Mr H. J- Madasa. caretaker of the tuberculosis dispensary, be granted three months leave of absence, a member remarked that, three months was p long time for leave of absence and astod wbat was the mailer with the man. The mayor, Alderman Balman, replied that Mr Madasa. through the conscientious performance of his duties,’ had himself contracted the disease, and had been medically advised to get away from Bermondsey as soon as possible. The council agreed to the recommendation, and passed a vote of sympathy with Mr Madasa.
