STATEMENTS TO BE INVESTIGATED.
DO MISSIONARIES RULE ISLAND OF NIUE?
The statement of Professor J. Macmillan Brown that Niue is ruled by the London Missionary Societv was referred to the Rev D. Gardner Miller this morning, Mr Miller being one of the local representatives of the society. In reply, Mr Miller said that he did not know the conditions at Niue well enough personally to deal with the njatter, but he was sending the clippings containing the statements to the headquarters of the, society in New Zealand in order that the matter might be investigated. The general secretary in Wellington would get into touch with Niue immediately.
Some eighteen months ago. the Lon don Missionary Society complained to the New Zealand Government of the fruit ship loading at Niue on Sundavs it being stated that both missionaries and natives objected to this practice. After the matter had been gone into by the Government, other arrangewere made
