SUMMONSES BY POST.

To the Editor. Dear Sir, —I have a horror of summonses, and-so has my wife. She hates all summonses, but my terror is occasioned by the fact that until I read them, I am always in doubt as to what portion of my past has been discovered. Yesterday, through the post, came a fearsome-looking document, printed on blue paper, with plenty of “whereases” inscribed thereon, telling me that I was booked for jury service. To know this was a relief, especially now that the races arc over, but at the same time, it didn’t appeal to my wife at all. A close inspection showed that the whole thing was a catch, a snare and a delusion. Gone were my anticipations of sitting on a hard bench at the Supreme Court for a few days and drawing beer money at the rate of 15s per diem. In fact, it was made apparent that I would have to pay to sit on this jury, for the whole thing was an advertisement for a play that is coming to Christchurch. And now, ail joking aside, do you, Mr Editor, think that the nerves of the populace should lx; rudely shattered by the reception of “ blueys” through the post? Really I think this kind of advertising goes just a little too far.—l am .etc., ANNOYED.
