Southern Mails.—The mails missed the train yesterday morning, in consequence of the contractor for conveying them to the railway station being too late. We are informed that they were made up and waiting to be taken from the Post Office some hours before the stipulated time. 53 55 55 Fire Police.—The following additional members were sworn in by the Mayor at four o’clock yesterday afternoon:—John Anderson, Henry Thomson, John Bent, George Fletcher, J. Moore was summoned on the information of the Sheep Inspector, with being the owner of 27,000 sheep infected with scab. The charge being admitted, a fine of £9OO was inflicted, but to be remitted if a clean certificate is produced within six months of the dale on which the information was laid— July 2. 55 25 55 Mr Home, the conjuior of “familiar spirits “ from “ the vasty deep,” has received a severe check in his very dubious career. Judgment has been given against him by Vice Chancellor Giffard, and he is ordered to re-trans-fer to his “bewitched” mother, Mrs Lyon, the £60,000 worth of substantial stock made over to him during his spiritual ascendancy. Such is the end of that cleverly organised system of rappings and spirit commurings. The learned judge, relying on the extraor dinary farrago of evidence, expressed himself satisfied that Mrs Lyon was either deluded or unduly influenced by Mr Hones’ occult pretensions, and therefor thnt “ p’ain law and plain est piiHi'' utility, the retention of such infatuated
