MINISTERIAL. The Hon W. Downie Stewart. Minister for Finance, will be in Christchurch on September 3, when be will be the gueet of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce at its annual dinner.

Mr A- G. Henderson was a passenger for Welling toil last evening. Mr Frank Parris has been granted an auctioneer's license by the City Council. Mr D. A. R. A motion of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr A. F. Drayton was passed at last night’s meeting of the City Council.

Mr G. E. Bunting, Australian manager of the Canadian National Steamships, accompanied by the assistant Australian manager, Mr F Wood arrived from Wellington on Sunday. At last night's meeting of the City Council a motion of sympathy with Mr A. E. Summerfield, a member of the council's staff, on the death of his wife and infant son. was carried.

Messrs A. E. Tunley (Birmingham) R. S. Irvine, K G. Begg (Wellington), A. H. Cramp (Auckland) and A. L. Hitchman (Leicester) are guests at the United Service Hotel.

Professor J. Macmillan Brown, who has been visiting Niue, returned to Christchurch from the north this morning.

filed by the rest, though the greater part of his holiday was spent in bed, as the result of a mild attack of influenza, which waited to declare itself fully at the Hermitage. Hr G. E. Bunting, Australian and New Zealand manager for the Canadian National Railways, is visiting Wellington. Mr Horace S. W. King (president) and Mr G. J. Park (secretary) are visiting Wellington to attend the annual conference of the New Zealand Technical Education Association. Prior to sailing for England on Saturday afternoon by the Rotorua, Sir John Russell was entertained at afternoon tea by the Hon Sir James Allen, several members of Parliament also being present. Word has been received that Sir Joseph Ward arrived at Quebec from England on the Canadian Pacific steamship Empress of Scotland, and is proceeding across Canada to connect with the Aorangi, sailing from Vancouver on August 22.
