CITY COUNCIL MET LAST NIGHT.
The City Council met last night. Present: The Mayor (the Rev J. K. Archer), and Councillors J. W. Beanland, Annie E. Herbert, A. W. Beaven, P. W. Sharpe, Geo. Manning, J. W. Roberts, G. R. Hunter, T. H. Butterfield, F. R. Cooke, Elizabeth R. M’Combs, R. M. Macfarlane, D. G. Sullivan, M.P., 11. T. Armstrong, M.P., M. E. Lyons, and C. L. Carr. An apology for absence was received from Councillor E. H. Andrews.
The Town Planning Committee reported that an application had been received for permission to establish a coal yard at No. 199, Ferry Road, and to erect an office in connection therewith. The site of the proposed yard was at present occupied by the remains of a house which was destroyed by fire some months ago, and which would be dismantled if the prQposal was given effect to. 0 The committee was of opinion that the locality was a business one and had therefore approved of the issue of the permit required for the erection of the office.
Messrs P. Graham and Son had applied on behalf of the Atlantic Union Oil Company, Ltd., for permission to erect a lubricating oil store at the corner of Waltham Road and Kingsley Street, Sydenham. The company desired to utilise iron for the erection of the store. The committee was of opinion that an iron building for the storage of lubricating oil in close proximity to the street was inadvisable, and had informed the company that it would be necessary for the store to be erected in brick. The report was adopted.
