Railway are to be congratulated or winning the senior competition for 1928 They won in 1925, when they achiever’ the honour of winning the senior com petition for the sixth year out of th< ten since the association was formed Sydenham, the runners-up, and whhave won in the two years previous tc this, were perhaps unlucky on a few occasions during the season. When r shoot-off between them and Railwa looked almost certain, New Brighto very unexpectedly defeated th southern suburbs team. Cashmere, who were the runners-uj in 1927, finished in third place. The\ did not do as well as in the previous year, this to an extent being due to

the fact of the club having two teams in the competition. The past winners of the Beaven Cup. which goes to the winners of the senior grade, are as follows: 1916 Railway. 1917 Railwav 191 S Railway 1919 Railway 1920 Crown Brewery. 1921 Ward’s Brewery. 1922 Crown Brewery 1923 Railway 1924 Sydenham 1925 Railway 1926 Sydenham 1927 Sydenham 1928 Railway Goodhart Cup Aggregate. For the third time L. C. Pimm has won the Goodhart Cup, which goes to the shooter putting up the best aggregate jn the senior competition" matches. 3he first time that Pimm won was in 1922, when he was shooting for Crown Brewery, but during the last three seasons he has thrown in his lot with Sydenham, his old club having disbanded in 1925. Pimm has always been looked upon as one of the best miniature rifle shots in Canterbury. He very seldom puts on a bad score, and in the years that he did not win, his name was always in the first halfdozen. C. Jessop, the runner-up, who is a team-mate of the winner, occupied a similar position last year, after a very exciting shoot-off with J. Edmonds, of the Sumner Club. The following are the past seven winners of the cup: 1922 L. C. Pimm (Crown Brewerv) 1923 C. Timbrell (Sumner) 1924 IT. Haworth (Cashmere) 1925 D. M’Donald (Cashmere). 1926 L. C. Pimm (Sydenham) 1927 J. Edmonds (Sumner). 1928 L. C. Pimm (Sydenham). Junior Notes. Sydenham again put up a good total m defeating W. 11. Harris Ltd., by 540 to. 537. Great interest will be taken this week in the meeting of Sydenham and the leaders, Kaiapoi Woollen. Last week the latter were defeated. by Returned Soldiers, and another loss will put the R.S.A. team level with them. Those mainly responsible for Sydenham’s good win were R. Uav 70. J. Clark 6S, and P. Grey 68. For W. 11. Harris, Ltd.. C. M’Callum 70. A. Halinshaw 69, and N. Harris 6S shot well. K X X Cashmere came to light with one of their best totals for the season, notching 535 against Railway’s 521, on the Cashmere range. With nothing higher than 68, the winners shot very consistently. R. Elcock 68, W. Guy, sen. 68, L. S. Loader 67 were their best scorers. Railway were considerably handicapped by having no cut-outs, as only the bare team of eight men turned up, which necessitated counting in a poor score of 57. E Falgar 68, G. Rylat.t 67, R. Smith 67, and J. Murray 67 were their top scorers. :: With only seven men shooting for Christchurch Working Men’s Club, Heathcote had a very easy win by 533 to 455. Heathcote shot much better than usual, the outstanding scores being: R. Long 68, W. Wilson 68, J. Evans 67, L. Gamblin 67, G. Hodgson 67. For the ‘‘Club'’ F. Matthews 69, C-. Stowell 68, and L. Gee 67 put on good scores. Returned Soldiers were expected to give Kaiapoi Woollen (the leaders) a good match, and this duly eventuated, the former winning by four points. Returned Soldiers opened well with a possible, and continued to shoot well until the latter part of the match, when the scoring fell away somewhat. Kaiapoi* opened badly, but the last few men shot well, and the result was in doubt with one man to go. He crashed with a ; bad shoot. D. Harries 70, Russell 69,, and R. Stringer 68 for R.S.A., shot well, while R. Alexander 70, F. Burgoyne 68 and G. Green 67, were the best for Kaiapoi Woollen.

Hub Notes. R.S A. Presidents team fired a frtendv match against the Veterans’ Associa -ion last week and ran out winners by 544 to 469. For the winners Shaw 69. R. Erickson 69, M’Coll 69, Harris 69, ind Stringer 6S returned the best cards, while Green for the Veterans put on v v | The members of the Returned Soldiers’ Club are taking a keen iuterest .11 their club competitions, there being >nly three more shoots to go before che close of the various competitions un by them.
