SCARLET FEVER CASES INCREASE.
FIFTY-SEVEN NOTIFIED LAST WEEK IN THE CANTERBURY AREA.
The epidemic of scarlet fever shows no signs of waning in the Canterbury health district. Last week fifty-seven cases were notified to the Medical Officer of Health, forty-two being in the Christchurch metropolitan area. In the previous week there were forty-seven cases of scarlet fever notified, thirtythree being in the metropolitan area. The total number of cases of infectious diseases notified during the week was ninety-two, compared with 100 in the previous week. There were two deaths from tuberculosis and two from pneumonia in Canterbury. Following are the details of the notifications in the past two weeks: — West Coast. Last Prev. Week. Week.
