(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copy right.)
(Received August 20, 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, August 20. Sir Herbert Murray, Lieutenant-Gov-ernor of Papua, has just arrived here. He deprecates the alarmist reports of massacres and tribal risings in New Guinea and declares that the residents regard these reports as a joke. Nevertheless they do the country a lot of damage. One affray cost_ nine lives, whereas the report stated 500 were dead, which was a pure fabrication.—Australian Press Association.
