CLAIMS OF WORK GET MEN OFF COMMON JURY.
Because their service on the common jury at the Supreme Court would put other men out of work, two .men were excused by Mr Justice Adams to-day. The first man to ask to be relieved of duty said that he was in partnership with his brother as a builder. His brother was away on the Peninsula and if the speaker were not at the business the men would be out of work. A plea on similar lines by a drainlayer was also successful. “My left ear is of no use. I couldn’t hear half what you said,” declared a third man. His Honor: That might be due to a variety of causes, but I think that you can go. “It’s like this, your Honor. I was out of work for eleven weeks and have just started work as a caretaker, and my employer does not want me to j leave the premises.” This explanation 1 resulted in a fourth man being excused. [
