LISTENERS-IN HEAR NEW YORK PROGRAMME.

SYDNEY STATION ZFC RE-BROADCASTS 2XAF. (Bv a Radio Correspondent.) Another link in the chain of friendship between Australia and America was welded last night by means of radio, when Station 2FC Sydney rebroadcast 2NAF Schenectady, New York, who were putting on the air a special programme for Australia. This programme was one of several which WGY, Schenectady, has from time to time broadcast for Australia through its short-wave station 2XAF, the Sydney station 2FC co-operating. Sydney listeners—and some in New Zealand, too —have thus been treated to two overseas re-broadcasts within the course of a few days, station 2BL having earlier in the week rebroadcast 2LO, London. Music came in well, though there was

considerable “swing” during the early portion of the transmission. 'The programme was put on the air between 10.30 p.m. and 11.30 p.m. (New Zealand time), corresponding with about 5.30 a.m. to 6.30 a.m. (eastern standard time). Wurlitzer organ, jazz and vocal items made up the bulk transmission. Both 2BL and 2FC have broadcast Australian programmes from their short-wave installations, which have been re-broadcast in the United States. Such transmissions, it is the firm belief of Australians, help to bring about a better understanding between the two peoples, and to “place Australia on the map.”
