ARRANGEMENTS NOW WELL IN HAND FOR CITY’S JUBILEE.
The Mayor, the Rev J. K. Archer, received the following cable message yesterday from the Mayor 'of Christchurch. Hampshire. England:— “ Christchurch, BJngland, sends cordial greetings and congratulations on your diamond jubilee celebrations, with fraternal greetings from the Mayor of Christchurch, England.” The tram shelter was brightly decorated on Saturday night and last night with coloured electric lights, part of the jubilee celebrations. The Entertainment Committee has arranged for a “living chess” display. The game selected is one that was played at the last annual congress irt Christchurch, the winner being the late Mr A. W. O. Davies, New Zealand chess champion. Mr W. H. Joyce, vicepresident of the Chess Club, is director and organiser. A
