DAVIS CUP MATCHES PLAYED IN EUROPE.

At Helsingfors Gregory (England) beat Grahn (Finland), 6-0, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1. Higgs beat Grotenfeld, 6-2, 6-1, 2-6, 6-0. GERMANY v. SPAIN. Playing at Berlin Germany eliminated Spain. In the last matches Flaquer and Morales (Spain) beat Bergmann and Kleinschroth (Germany), 7-5, 6-3, 2-6. 68. 6-1. Preen (Germany) beat Flaquer (Spain), 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Germany will meet the winner of the England-Finland match. HUNGARY v. HOLLAND. At Amsterdam Timmer (Holland) beat Tackals (Hungary), 6-2, 6-0, 6-1. Von Kehrling (Hungary) beat Diemerkool (Holland), 7-5, 4-6, 2-6, 6-1. Diemerkool retired. Timmer and Koopman beat von Kehrling and Peter, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2, 7-5. ITALY v. RUMANIA. At Rome Italy eliminated Rumania. De Morpurgo and Gaslini (Italy) beat Luppu and Dorner, 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, Stefani (Italy) beat Luppu (Ru-* mania), 3-6, 6-4* 6-4, 5-7, 9-7. De Morpurgo scratched against Dormer. Italy meets India in the third round. CZECHOSLOVAKIA v. SWEDEN. At Stockholm Czecho-Slovakia beat Sweden. In the last matches Kozeluh and Macenauel (Czecho-Slovakia) beat Malmstrom and Winnergsen, 6-0, 6-2, 6-4. Menzel (Czechoslovakia) beat Garell, 6-2, 6-0, 5-7, SS. NEW YORK, May 19. Tilden, Hennessy, George Lott and Wilbur Coen have been chosen to represent the United States in the remaining American zone Davis Cup matches. If successful they, with Hunter, will play in Europe. Coen is aged sixteen and is the youngest player ever to be chosen for a Davis Cup team. The team meets China at Kansas City on May 25, and will proceed to Europe on June 9 if successful, to meet the winner of the European zone. —Australian Press Association.
