MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Mary Ann Windsor, aged 66, was sen- ' tenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour on a charge of drunkenness and three months impri sonment with hard labour on a charge of using obscene language, the sentence--to be cumulative. She was convicted and discharged for breach of v her prohibition order. Simon Brophv was fined 20s with 3s cab hire, in default forty -eight hour*' imprisonment. Charles Rodgers was fined 10s with 3s cab hire, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. On a charge of being on licensed premises after hours, he was convicted and discharged. John Rowe was fined 10s in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment on a charge o£ drunkenness. On a charge of being on licensed premises after hours, he was fined 20s. CHILDREN S COURT. (Before Mr 11. P. Lawry, S.M.. and Mr W. M. West, J P.) MISTOOK SIGNAL. A boy, who was charged with driving a horse and cart over the Colombo Street railway crossing when a train was approaching, said that he took the crossing-keeper’s raising of his flag as a sign to proceed. After some questioning, the charge was withdrawn. “ Seeing that you made a mistake we'll Jet you off this time,” said the Magistrate. " Don’t do it again.” FOR ELEVEN MONTHS. " I have tried for eleven months to get his mother to come forward to make some arrangement about the boy,” said the Child Welfare Officer (Miss Edwards), when a small bov appeared before the Court, in company with a relative. The child was committed to the care of the State. BY-LAW BREACHES. On charges of riding a bicycle at night without light, reflector. Or bell, a boy was fined 5s on the first charge and convicted and discharged on the other two.
