EDUCATION BOARD HOLDS MEETING.

A meeting of the Canterbury Education Board to-day was attended by Messrs C. S. Thompson (chairman), TV. A. Banks, J. Maze, TV. H. Winsor, J. Gow, TV. Johnson, R. H. Wild, T. Hughes, and W. P. Protests against the method of election of school committees at Phillipstown, Dromore, and Rcwanul were received. In the case of Pliillipstown allegations were made that the nominations were not publicly displayed, that householders were not given the opportunity of selecting a chairman, and that a complete annual report and financial statement had not been available. It was reported that tlie balance-sheet had been received by the board, which decided to hold over the question until the financial statement had been audited. June 18 was fixed as the date for the setting up of committees in those twenty-two districts in which there had been no committees formed. Deputations set up to confer with school committees reported that further details were asked for in regard to conveying children from outlying districts to the Lauriston School, and that Greenstreet householders had opposed the proposal for the merging of that school with the Ashburton Borough School. Transfers of teachers were approved as follow:—To Beckenham, Miss M. Patterson, from Kaiapoi; to Elmwood, Mrs F. L. Webb, from Papanui; to Greenstreet, Miss R. Morris, from Pendarves; to Linwood Avenue, Miss E. M. Brewins, from Linwood (instead of Miss t. Thwaites); to Waltham, Miss K Bachelor, from Lyttelton West; /to Springbank, Miss A. J. Allan, from Skipton.
