MINISTERIAL. The Hon J. A. Young, Minister for Health, telegraphed to Mr H. Holland, M.P., yesterday stating that he will arrive in Christchurch from Gore this evening, and will stay in this city until Thursday evening. Mr Edward Anderson has been reappointed president of the Auckland Savings Bank, and Mr A. S. Bankart deputy-president. Messrs W. Cahill (Wellington). Herbert O. Frinds (Vancouver), and B. L. Dignan (Auckland), are guests at Warner’s Hotel. The City Council at its meeting last, night confirmed the appointment of Messrs J. C. Dobbs, F. Burnet, and W. M. Peckham as electrical inspectors. At yesterda) r *s meeting of the Canterbury College Board of Governors, a letter was read from the Department; of Education expressing regret at the death of Mr A. L. Stringer, late Registrar of Canterbury College. A letter was received from Mr R. E. Ritchie (Dunedin). Sir Henry Wigram has consented to accept the office of patron of the Canterbury Aero Club, at present being formed. Mr Norton Francis has \ accepted the position of deputy-chairman during the absence in England of the chairman, Sir Francis Boys. Mr J. S. Dick, secretary of the Southland League. Mr F. W. Preddy. a member of the same league, and Mr W. B. Steel, secretary of the Otago Expansion League, leave by the West Coast express to-day to attend the conference of South Island Progress Leagues, which opens to-morrow at Westport.

Roy Smith, the newly-appoint-ed secretary of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, took up his duties to-day. Mr Smith is successor to- Mr P. R. Climie, organis’er of the Canterbury Progress League. Mr F. A. Grant has been acting-secretary for the last six months. The Board of Governors of Canterbury College has awarded the engineering entrance exhibition to Mr H. E. Evans. The General Electric Company’s exhibition has been awarded to Mr W. G. RutWerford and the British Thomson Houston exhibition to Mr A. A. D. MacGregor. At last night’s meeting of the City Council, the Departmental Committee reported that it had considered' the question of filling the vacancy in the Treasury Department caused by the promotion of Mr R. F. Batchelor, and had appointed Mr G. M’Kenzie from the Town Clerk’s Department to the position. Mr W. G. Holloway had been promoted to the position now occupied by Mr M’Kenzie. A pleasant gathering was held recently at Canterbury College, when members of the College Orchestral Society met to bid bon voyage to Mr II I. Sinclair, who leaves this week for an extended tour of England and the Continent. Dr Hight, in presenting Mr Sinclair with a travelling rug, referred to the esteem in which he is held by his college associates and the valuable services rendered by him to the society during the past five years. The following members of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College will retire by rotation on June 30 next: The Hon L. M. Isitt. appointed by his Excellency the Governor-General; Colonel J. Studholme, elected by Canterbury members of Parliament, Mr J. R. Cuningham and Dr J. Guthrie, elected by graduates of the college; Mr L. B. Wood, elected by school teachers; and Mr 11. D. Acland, elected by school committees. The time for receiving nominations will close at noon on May 28, and the elections will be held on June 4.
