CANON OF APPOINTMENT OF MAORI BISHOP MADE.

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 30. General Synod to-night decided upon the appointment of a Maori Suffragan Bishop (a member of the Maori race) to the Bishop of Waiapu. For the purposes of the canon, the term Maori race includes all persons reputedly Maori, and who are by descent Maori or half-caste Maori, or the children of such half-castes. The person appointed shall be known as the Bishop of Aotea-roa, and no nomination will be made unless the provisions are made for a stipend of £SOO, a suitable residence and reasonable travelling allowances. He shall have supervision over the members of the Maori race in the diocese of Waiapu and in the dioceses of the other Bishops who wish hfm to do so. The Bishop will have a seat on General Synod, with a right to speak and vote as a clerical member.
