BRITAIN’S THREAT NOT MERE BLUFF.
ULTIMATUM TO EGYPT IS ABSOLUTELY FINAL STEP PRECEDING FIRMEST ACTION
(CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1.)
(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright..) (Received May 1, 12.35 p.m.) LONDON, April 30. Britain’s ultimatum is not mere bluff, but Is absolutely the final step preceding the firmest action in Egypt if Mustafa Nahas Pasha does not withdraw the Public Assemblies Bill by May 2, says the political correspondent of the “Herald.” No modification will now be accepted. Only the entire withdrawal of the measure, failing which Britain will act the moment the ultimatum expires. There is reason for believing that one step may be the immediate seizure of the Customs, while warships and troops will stand by as a warning against violence. There will be an attempt to dissolve Parliament, but the action is strictly within Britain’s constitutional rights, under the 1922 declaration. It is learned that the British Government discussed the Bill over the week-end in order to give an opportunity for its modification, but Nahas Pasha’s defiance resulted in the decision to send the ultimatum.—United Service.
