Some time ago the City Council ac cepted an offer from the Beautifying Association of six ornamental lamps for the river banks. The matter was referred to the Electricity Committee to decide the location of the lamps. A conference was recently held between representatives of the committee and the Beautifying Association, when it was decided to recommend that three of the. lamps be first erected, and that these be equally spared along the footpath of the south bank of the river between the Manchester Street and Madras Street Bridges. At last night’s meeting of the council, the committee recommended that this location and standards of a single-lamp type, somewhat similar to those in use on the bridges, be approved. It was stated that a detailed design would be submitted to the committee later. The recommendation was approved.
