COMMITTEE TO REPORT ON MEASURES FOR PROTECTING WOMEN.
WILL INQUIRE INTO LAWS IN MALAY STATES AND STRAITS. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copy right.) RUGBY, April 29. The Colonial Secretary, Mr L. C. M. S. Amery, has appointed a committee to examine and report upon two measures for the protection of women and girls, known as the Straits Settlements Ordinance No. 15 of 1927, and the Federated Malay States Enactment No. 18, of 1927. Lord Balfour of Burleigh will be chairman of the committee. The other members will be: The lion Mrs Alfred Littleton; Sir Oscar Warburgh. who has been a prominent member of the London County Council for many years: Miss Barrie Lambert, the wellknown physician and formerly medical officer to the Ministry of Health; Mrs Mevill Roffe; and the Rev William Roberts. They will be assisted by Departmental representatives of the Colonial Office, the Admiralty, the War Office, the Home Office and the Ministry of Health. The first meeting of the committee will be held at the Colonial Office to-morrow.—British Official Wireless.
