racing official farewelled. A very pleasant function recently took place when a prominent racing official was farewelled prior to leaving the country. In the course of the evening, when the air blue with smoke, he rose to make reply: “ Gentlemen,” he said, “ I see around, me to-night many happy faces. I hope it’s not because I’m going; away." No!
