UNION ROWING CLUB TROPHIES PRESENTED.

Trophies won during last season by members of the Union Rowing Club were presented at the annual smoke concert on Saturday night. The president of the club (Mr D. Lee) presided. Before the proceedings were commenced the gathering stood for a space in silence respectful to the memory of the late Messrs H. L. Bush and F. Sutherland, who had been prominent members of the club. Reviewing last season’s sport, in speaking to the toast of the “Union Rowing Club,” the chairman stated that a pleasing feature of the regattas was the more or less even distribution of the spoils of victory. Training had been impeded by the river sweeper’s operations over the course, but it was hoped that next season would see training started early on a deepened course. The speaker referred in eulogistic terms to the success of the Canterbury interprovincial eight. “We have had a rather lean season, but we hope the club will soon come back to its palmy day's,” said the club captain, Mr W. Duggan, in responding to the toast. The toast list was as follows: “Union Rowing Club” (proposed by the chairman and responded to by Mr W. Duggan), “Canterbury Rowing Association” (Mr .1. L. Stinear, Mr F. D. Kesteven), “Sister Clubs” (Mr F. Booth, visiting members). Over fifty were present at the social, at which a capital musical programme was given.
