EVIDENCE IN MONS LIBEL CASE ENDED.

(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) OTTAWA, April 28. Evidence in the Currie libel case was completed to-day. General Sir Arthur Currie was in the witness box for a total of nine hours. It is expected that counsel will address the jury on Monday, after which the case will go to the jury. The trial, which enters its third week, was marked by strong attacks on General Currie for an alleged useless sacrifice of life in connection with the capture of Mons. Many officers testified strongly in favour of the ability of General Currie as a commander.—Australian Press Association. General Currie, who commanded the Canadian Corps in the war, is suing the " Port Hope Guide ” for libel, arising from a published statement that he caused unnecessary casualties at Mons on Armistice Day through a desire to have the Canadians fire the last shots of the war.
