SAVING THE GUNS.
To the Editor. Sir,—ln regard to the guns on the river banks, I think a big fuss is being made over very little. Surely it is the way we look at these things! To me they have been no ill sight. I have looked at them with pride because they are trophies won by our brave boys. I know people who complain of those guns who took their children to Lyttelton and pushed through great crowds to get them on board the New Zealand. With the greatest of pride they showed them the big guns there, yet those people don’t like to be called inconsistent. To remove the guns seems to me to be a big insult to the men who brought them here. They will not foster a spirit of •war in our children, if they are taught to look at them in the right light. I hate war, but all the same I am proud to look at anything that shows we are the victors. —l am. etc., HAPPY JOAN. (Sister of a 1914 star holder.)
