GOLF.

CHRISTCHURCH LADIES’ CLUB. The Christchurch Ladies’. Golf Club had a. successful opening: day at Shirley yesterday. The weather was perfect and the course and greens were in first-class order; consequently, everything was favourable to good golf, and, considering that it was the first match of the season, many of the players showed good form. The competition selected was a flag match for senior and junior players, to be played in a seventy bogey. In the seniors. Miss Betty Rutherford was equal to the occasion, and by * placing the flag in the eighteenth hole was the winner. This is Miss Rutherford’s second win inside a week, and she is fulfilling in a marked degree the early promise she gave of becoming a good player. In the junior section. Mrs- 3?\ C. A’Court almost equalled Miss Rutherford's performance, as she placed the flag eighteen Inches from the pin at the eighteenth green, beating Miss Acland by a few feet only and becoming the winner. A putting competition was won by Miss Beadel. The members and their friends were hospitably entertained at afternoon tea by Miss Cowlishaw, the club captain, after which the club’s president, Mrs A. Boyle, handed the prizes to the winners. Judging by the success of the opening day, the Christchurch ladies’ Golf Club can anticipate a very successful soason.
