s. LAY BREAKS RECORD FOR JAVELIN THROW
Per Press .Association. lIAWERA, March 21. A javelin throw of 216 ft 3£in was registered by the selected Olympic representative, S. A. Lay, in an exhibition at the gymkhana conducted by the Egmont Agricultural and Pastoral Association this afternoon. Lay’s previous best for New Zealand and Australia was 209 ft 4in at New Plymouth on February 4. To-day's effort was nearly 7ft better, and only 2ft Sin short of the world’s record of 218 ft 88in. As Lay had the advantage of a light cross breeze a new record for Australasia will not be applied for.
