MAYOR NOT ANXIOUS TO DISCUSS FISH CONTROVERSY TO-DAY. Having started the controversy on the position of the fish trade in the city, the Mayor (the Rev J. K. Archer) did not care to discuss the matter further when approached by a reporter to-day.
“ I’m dealing with the matter in my own way and I’m not at all interested in the opinions of Messrs Feron and Son,” Mr Archer said. “ More will be heard of the subject later, but in the meantime I have nothing further to say.” Yesterday the Mayor challenged Messrs Feron and Son to report the wholesale prices of fish at their market in the city. These prices have now been published, but the Mayor declined to comment on them this morning.
