ART GALLERY SITE.

To the Editor. Sir,—l agree with “ Nature First ’* in Saturday's “ Star,” that it would be a mistake to use the suggested position in the Gardens for the Art Gallery. It is to be hoped that the Domain Board will not be persuaded, under the natural excitement of the moment, to consent to such a permanent wrong. A building on the lawn, out in the open, would destroy the lovely view from the front. It is the one special spot in the Gardens which should not be used for any building. Another ground for objection is its remoteness from the city, an objection sufficient in itself to defeat the proposal. We ought to .be able to rely on the Domain Board, and to be satisfied that it .will adhere strictly to its trust, refusing to allow an encroachment that later would be found to be an irretrievable wrong.—l am, etc., FIFTY-SIX YEARS RESIDENT.
