MANSLAUGHTER TRIAL BEGINS IN OAMARU.
Per Press Association. OAMARU. March 7. The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court opened this morning. Mr Justice Sim said that at the last sitting there were no cases for the Grand Jury. This time there was an unusually large number for Oamaru. Frank Murray, for carnal knowledge of a girl under sixteen years, was sentenced to reformative detention for twelve months. The trial commenced of Mary Jane ( lark, of Dunedin, on a charge of manslaughter v of Jessie Elizabeth Smart on November 27, by the unlawful use of an instrument. Accused pleaded, not guilty, and was represented by Mr Hanlon.
