HAD TO TIE HIM UP.
MAN RESCUED FROM HARBOUR WANTED TO PLUNGE IN AGAIN. (Special to the “Star.”) AUCKLAND, March 7. There was a sensation on the 9.20 ferry, Makora to Devonport this morning, when a passenger, Geoffrey Cope, leaped overboard. A life-buoy was thrown out, and other passengers were relieved when they' saw him striking out boldly'. A small row-boat would have been lowered, but when it was seen that the man had reached the buoy, the ferry was backed, and the dripping man was picked up. There was no difficulty in getting him aboard, but immediately he tried to jump back into the water, struggling and kicking. He fought with Captain Croll, and the mate of the Makora, and three or four passengers were called in to help to hold him. With his feet tied and hands bound behind his back he was carried into a cabin. Later he appeared at the Police Court charged with attempting to commit suicide. He was remanded until to-morrow.
