CARPENTERS AND JOINERS SEEK NEW DOMINION AWARD.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 6. The carpenters and joiners dispute, when application was made for a new Dominion award, was before the Conciliation Council to-day. The employees asked for a forty hour week of five days with £6 wages in lieu of a forty-four hour week of 5 h days and wages of 2s 3|d per hour. The employers asked for the existing award to be maintained. A complete agreement upon all clauses in dispute was arrived at, with the exception of wages and two minor points. The new conditions of employment will be based substantially upon the terms of the present award. The conference will be resumed tomorrow when it is expected that the remaining items in dispute will be arranged so that there will be no appeal made to the Arbitration Court.
