PRINCE OF WALES INVITED TO HAWAII.

ISOTH ANNIVERSARY OF COOK’S DISCOVERY TO BE CELEBRATED. (Special to the “Star.”) HONOLULU, January 18. H.R.H. the Prince of Wales may visit the Hawaiian Islands this summer to attend the celebration in August Pf the 150th anniversary of the discovery of these islands by Captain James Cook. Governor Wallace R. Farrington, of the Territory of Hawaii, during his recent trip to Washington asked that a special invitation be extended to Great Britain to take part in the sesquicentennial, with the suggestion that the Prince of Wales be a guest of the territory during the celebration. It is pointed out here that there would be a strong possibility of His Highness accepting such an invitation, as the Prince was very much taken with the islands on his last visit here and repeatedly expressed a desire to make another trip to the Pacific Paradise. • The sesquicentennial programme will be held on three of the islands, with native pageants and ceremonials depicting the landing of Captain Cook and his reception by the natives of Waimea, Island of Kauai, in 1778. On the island of Hawaii, at Kealakekua Bay, a tablet marking the spot where the discoverer was killed will be dedicated. Native fe-asts, pageants and receptions will be held in Honolulu and the anniversary programme will include excursions to the famous Kilauea volcano and other points of historic and scenic interest in Hawaii. The Commission arranging for the sesquicentennial, to be held on August 15 to 19, hopes to have Great Britain .send warships to Hawaii to represent the nation in the ceremony, and is planning to invite descendants of Captain Cook and Lord Sandwich to attend.
