SYDENHAM HOUSE DAMAGED BY EARLY MORNING FIRE.

Fire did considerable damage to a six-roomed residence owned and occupied by Mrs M. J. Cook, of 256, Brougham Street, Sydenham, early this morning.

Mrs Cook had apparently left a fire under the washhouse copper while she continued her housheold duties, when some embers fell out of the grate, igniting the washhouse. The blaze quickly spread into the house and the fire ■had a good hold when the brigade received the alarm at 7.32 a.m.

A good save was made in the front portion of the house, but considerable damage was done in the rear part. Mrs Cook suffered from shock.

Details of insurances are not available.
