n 1 NORTH BEACH NOTES. SURF BATHING. The continued warm weather has induced large numbers to visit the beach both at last week-end and throughout the week. Crowds of cars may be seen daily parked on the Esplanade between Bowhill Road and Osborne Terrace, and bathing has been freely indulged in irrespective of the tides and right through the evening. It is a long time since such a run of good weather has been experienced here, and bathers, both local and from the city, are taking full advantage of it. ROADS. The roads between the city and North Beach have lately received some attention. In the Heathcote County Wainoni Road is now tar sealed for the full length. Kerr’s Road, the boundary between Heathcote County and the city, was for a long time in a deplorable state, but has been transformed and is now tar sealed. Worcester Street extension is now being attended to; when this is completed there will be a good road for motorists from the heart of the city as far as the Bower Bridge. Much money has been spent on the roads on the New Brighton side of the Bower Bridge and much more will require to be spent unless the surface is tar sealed. The cost of metal to repair the main road such as Racecourse Road for one year would practically pay for tar sealing. The question will have to be faced soon. NEW BUSINESS. Mr W. Chegwin has started business next to Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Bowhill Road, as a tobacconist and ladies’ and men’s hairdresser. For some time past the need of a hairdresser has been felt in the district. SCHOOL. The North Beach School re-opened on Wednesday last. The school committee will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday evening next. The school will take part in the Borough picnic. PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs R. Ivan Lamb, of the Esplanade, have returned from a fortnight’s trip by motor, visiting Dunedin, Central Otago, Queenstown, Lake Wanaka, Mt Cook, Lake Tekapo, Timaru. During the trip glorious weather was experienced and a most enjoyable holiday spent entirely free of any car difficulty.

Scctt, of Jubilee Avenue, has f i- been appointed as a teacher at North t h Beach School. t Mr and Mrs A. L. R.
