Miss Doris Ronaldson is spending a holiday at ITanmer Springs.

Miss Lawrell, who was the guest of Mrs W. Burns, Tirnaru, has returned to Christchurch. Miss Eileen Wilson, Heaton Street, will return to-day from Ilanmer Springs. Mrs Ernest LeCren, Heaton Street, is leaving shortly for a holiday visit to Mount Cook.

Dr and Mrs T. Mill, ICnowles Street, will leave to-day for a holiday visit in the south.

Miss Irene Quill, of the staff of Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd., is at present an inmate of Lewisham Hospital.

Lady Findlay arrived in Christchurch this morning. Mrs F. Dennehy has returned to Greymouth from Christchurch. Miss Jane Donnelly will leave next week for a holiday visit to Auckland. Mrs J. Li. Wilson, Rossall Street, will return this evening from Ilanmer Springs. Miss Fay Ballin, Rossall Street, will leave early next week for a holiday visit to Rotorua and Auckland. Mr and Mrs W. J. Minty, of Merivale, left Auckland on Wednesday for London by the Remuera. Mr and Mrs Godfrey Hall (Hororata) are staying at the United Service Hotel. Mr and Mrs Tirnaru Rhodes and Miss Rhodes and Mrs Thomas (Tirnaru) are guests at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr and Mrs C. A. Stringer, Cashmere, will be amongst Christchurch visitors to Tirnaru for the holidays. Mr and Mrs Maurice Gresson and family (Fendalton) will spend the Christinas holidays at Sumner. Miss Mulvaney Gray is leaving shortly for a trip to Sydney to visit her sister. Sir Charles and Lady Holdsworth are among the recent arrivals staying at Warner’s Hotel. Mr and Mrs Frank Graham (Heaton Street) will be amongst Christchurch visitors to Auckland during the holi•days. Dr and Mrs Roberton (Auckland), are expected in Christchurch next week to spend Christmas with their daughter, Mrs Leslie Averill, Bealey Avenue. Mrs W. Diamond and Miss Diamond and Mr and Mrs Ross Lascelles will be amongst Christchurch visitors to Timaru for the holidays. The Rev Stephen Parr and Mrs Parr will leave on Monday for Mount Cook, and intend spending the New Year holidays on the West Coast. In Seoul, capital of Korea, a large bell is tolled at about S a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Only between these hours are women allowed in the streets.

The engagement is announced of Emma, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Fletcher, of Leithfield, to Ernest Frederick, elder son of Air and Mrs E. G. Davison, of Lincoln. Mr and Mrs Campbell Hay ( Pigeon ft&y), Mrs T. M'Evedy (Blythe Downs), Mrs R. J. Morice (Wellington) and Mr and Mrs Blunden (Waikuku) are guests at Warner’s Hotel.

This evening a jazz dance will be held by the All Sports Assembly at the Albert Hall (Cashel Street). Teddy Jones's dance band will provide the latest musical numbers. The final heat of the Christinas foxtrot contest will be held to-night.

On Wednesday, December 14, the annual meeting of the Opawa-Woolston branch of the Opawa Methodist Sunday schoolroom was held when Mrs Jenkins presided over a fair attendance. The following officers for the j-ear were elected: President, Mrs Jenkins; vice-presi-dents, Mrs Fee, Mrs Simpson and Miss Moor; hon secretary, Mrs West and Mrs Fee; hon treasurer, Mrs Johnston; press reporter Mrs Simpson.
