ANYONE WHO LIKES CAN PRACTISE MEDICINE, MAGISTRATE SAYS.
UNREGISTERED MAN HAS LEGAL STATUS. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, December 17. Frederick Webb, styled as a professor, was charged in the Police Court that, not being registered under the Medical Practitioners Act, he practised medicine under a description implying that he was especially qualified to do sc. After a lengthy hearing Mr Cruickskank, S.M., said: “There is no question but that anyone who likes can practise medicine. No one who has the power or skill to help suffering mankind should be prohibited from practising his skill. An unregistered man is quite recognised and has a legal status.” The Magistrate said that the word “professpr” had so deteriorated in meaning that it could even be applied tc a man who trained dogs. Any man who put an advertisement on his door like that displayed in the Court by the defence could not be taken for a doctor. The case was dismissed. Counsel was allowed the right to appeal.
