WOMEN WORE HAIR IN NETS AWAY BACK IN THE YEAR 3500 B.C
(Received December 17, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, December 16. Many gold relics are among the discoveries at Ur of the Chaldees, according to the report of the joint expedition from the British Museum and Pennsylvania University. A royal prince’s grave, dating probably 3500 B.C. contained a gold headdress and gold wig. Nearby were golden bowls, a lamp, beads, earrings, rings, silver daggers, with gold hilts, gold-mounted spears and many articles of silver-and lapis lazuli. Other finds showed that the women once wore their hair in a net. of woven gold, on ribbons from which hung beads of lapis and cornelian. They also wore huge ear pendants. Later fashion decreed for the. weaving of ribbons round the tresses, which were looped overhead and the earrings became quite small.
